# Getting started

Install Gatefold and get a music store ready to publish.

## Install

1. Add Gatefold from the Shopify Theme Store, or upload the theme file in **Online Store > Themes > Add theme**. See [Install and activate a theme](../guides/install-and-activate.md).
2. Choose **Customize** and pick a preset under **Theme settings > Theme styles**. See [Theme settings and presets](theme-settings.md).
3. Open **Theme settings > Release data** and check that each field points at the metafields your catalog uses. Products that already carry common music metafields (artist, album, label, release date) usually match the defaults. See [Release data](release-data.md).

## Create the collections Gatefold uses

| Collection | Used by |
| --- | --- |
| Pre-orders | The [release calendar](release-calendar.md) and pre-order release banners |
| New releases or limited editions | The cart drawer add-on offer |
| Best sellers | Search suggestions before anything is typed |

## Turn on filters

In Shopify's free **Search & Discovery** app, turn on filters for Availability, Product type, Format and any color metafields. Set complementary products for your key releases: they feed the cart recommendations, frequently bought together and checkout offers.

## Before you publish

Preview three products: a pre-order, a sold-out product and a product with several editions. If each shows the right badge, buttons and editions, your release data is set up.

{% hint style="info" %}
Sections such as Release spotlight, Trending artists and Release calendar stay hidden on the storefront until they have something to show. In the theme editor they show a placeholder or a hint telling you what to pick.
